Research shows that in almost every concert held in Kenya, Only 75% of the people who attend have valid tickets. several factors contribute to concert-goers avoiding ticket purchases and opting to storm events:
  1. Prevalence of Ticket Fraud (40%): The widespread issue of counterfeit tickets deters many from purchasing, fearing they might be scammed.

  2. High Ticket Prices (30%): Elevated costs make events inaccessible to a significant portion of fans, prompting them to seek alternative entry methods.

  3. Peer Influence and Social Media (10%): Reports of others successfully entering without tickets encourage similar behavior among fans.

For instance, during Shensea's recent concert in Nairobi, chaos erupted as non-ticket holders forced their way into the venue, leading to security concerns and the artist's performance being cut short. This incident highlights the interplay of high ticket prices and event mismanagement contributing to such disruptions.

Case study

I spoke with some of the people I knew regularly attended shows and events to better understand the process of how they heard about the events, to purchasing tickets and getting verified at the entrance of the venue. I then created user personas from the insights gotten from these sessions to guide my design as i moved forward.

Ideation.

We provide the user with the event name so that they are able to manage their expectation. Then we provide the details of the event to give a deep dive into what to expect at the event. This includes the date, location of the event and the price of the tickets as well as the various categories of tickets available. Users get a map view of the venue also so that they can plan well.
